They provided a new gaming experience, whose unusualness lured both ordinary players and famous streamers into their networks. Both asymmetric horrors and horror shooters came out into the world (Back 4 Blood should not be included in the list of the latter), but spiritualistic projects riveted all the attention to themselves. A successful pioneer is Phasmophobia, which spawned a decent number of clones. Created on Unity, it has managed to become a real bestseller, having accumulated almost 400 thousand positive reviews on Steam. It is this game that is the reason for the appearance of our today's guest - a game called Ghost Watchers.

Ghost Watchers is a clone of Phasmophobia. The games are so similar in terms of tasks, setting and mechanics that after Phasmophobia you will feel like a fish out of water. The question immediately arises: which of them is scarier? Well, first you need to conduct a few sessions of spiritism in both, choosing a high level of difficulty, and then get an answer.

We play as a ghost catcher whose firm is called the Ghost Watchers. We have our own van with a decent amount of equipment, in co-op mode - a whole team. There are several cards in the game, where one of the eight spirits lives. We have to establish his appearance, age, and also understand his mood, and then catch the villain.

Gameplay

What do horror games offer in most cases? True, darkness and horrors in it. In Ghost Watchers, you will be running around with the lights off most of the time. This is necessary in order to summon a ghost and find various traces. Unlike many other similar projects, this one has a good work with lighting. Since events always unfold at night, moonlight even creates a romantic mood, which soon changes adrenaline rushes. And - yes, there are enough screamers here.

We go into the house and use a special device to look for a ghost, taking measurements. You need to run after him, because he quickly moves around the location. When 100% is filled, we will be shown the number of measurements - they need to be driven into the tab menu to narrow down the search for the type of our spirit. We also have a thermometer that allows you to quickly find the creature. After the done manipulations, the spirit will become more active. You will hear voices and be able to conduct a dialogue with an otherworldly creature using a walkie-talkie and a real microphone. There are several phrases in the encyclopedia that you can ask the ghost. Phrases in English, but even if English is lame, AI will understand you. It is worth noting that after working with the sensor and the thermometer, frightening things will begin to happen on the map: objects can move, voices, knocks, steps, and even the crying of a child will be heard. I remind you that you are in a dark room, where every silhouette can lead to fear. The spirit can also appear randomly for a few seconds, you should be careful.

Ghost Watchers has a survival element. While hunting, you can be killed by a ghost. To prevent this from happening, you need to carry one of the amulets with you: a cross, a statue of Jesus, incense. There are a lot of items in the game, you won’t be able to wear everything at once, so we recommend taking the necessary ones and throwing them on the floor in the house. The type of ghost narrows down to a few options, you need to quickly determine its age and mood. To do this, use a Ouija board and a voodoo doll. It is worth noting that these items are not interesting for all types of creatures, but their usefulness should not be underestimated. For example, if the pointer of letters on the board moves randomly, then you are dealing with an ancient spirit.

The most interesting thing begins - attacks. My ears begin to ring, the picture blurs. You need to protect yourself, so at such moments we quickly switch to the cross. A screamer jumps out and stands right in front of you. At this point, you need to stop, because here the developers made a mistake - you can often determine the type of spirit by the screamer. But you need to know for sure, so we continue the study, narrowing the circle. Ghosts in this game love to do all sorts of dirty tricks. They can move you to another place, then the character's heart rate increases and he begins to whimper. To call the spirit, you need a mirror - this is a 100% method that allows you to see the space through the eyes of a poltergeist. Do not forget to switch to the cross in time during the attack. Thus, we make the spirit weaker and move on to the next phase of the game. You need to repeat it several times.

In general, the weakening methods for all are almost the same, only one element in the list can differ. The developers also screwed up with this, because they deliberately killed the diversity in this game. We need to find traces of the ghost with the help of an ultraviolet flashlight, turn on 5 light sources, take a picture of some elements to complete the task. From the house we run to the van, we buy the necessary things, we return back. On hard and low difficulty (there is no medium here), the ghost cannot attack outside the house, but on the maximum it becomes really annoying. When attacking, you will lose all items, so we recommend choosing a high difficulty level to start with.

You have collected all the data, it's time to kill the poltergeist. We use salt or flash grenades during the attack, repeat a couple of times. At the final stage, our ghost will no longer be invisible and will wander around the house, running away from you and trying to attack you. The game of hide and seek, in most cases, ends with a victory and a farm of currency to buy things in the next rink.

Summarizing, we can say that Ghost Watchers did not manage to outdo Phasmophobia. Without a doubt, the game is interesting, but all screamers always behave the same way. It looks pretty funny, besides, you always know when a ghost pops up. The game is too monotonous, lacking more types of poltergeists and more options for identifying and catching each. It is also worth emphasizing that the appearance of ghosts does not inspire horror. The game is worth playing only in co-op, then the fan is guaranteed.

Graphics

Graphics in such games is an ephemeral thing. You don't see it, but it's there. Ghost Watchers should be praised only for their work with lighting. The environment textures are well done, but the character and ghost models leave a lot to be desired. The animations are at zero, but they did a good job with the soundtrack.
