Thymesia Game Overview

Atmosphere

Several souls-like games are released to the world every year, continuing the tradition and glorifying the Dark Souls series, worshiping it like a deity. The trend has become familiar - modern games are greatly simplified, the old school is often missing. Some of them turn out to be quite worthy, while others are completely disgusting. Thymesia has recently been released and we have already played this project.

Thymesia is a mixture of Dark Souls and Sekiro. Before the release, many said that we have a completely new Bloodborne on the PC, but there is nothing at all from the latter. The game follows a well-trodden path in a dark forest, uses the same techniques, plunges you into a gloomy world with a bunch of embittered enemies. The project took a little bit from two FromSoftware games and tried to create a single whole from the fragments. The result is Uma's twin brother.

Unlike Dark Souls, there is a distinct plot here, which is shown to us by cut-scenes. Thymesia decided to "replace concepts" and instead of loot and souls scattered around the world, she scattered notes and all sorts of texts that tell the story of what is happening. At first you think: “Great!”, But after a dozen meaningless texts, you begin to suspect something is wrong.

We play as the alchemist Corbus, who is looking for a cure for the plague, trying to turn the plague itself into a cure. We are placed in the world of dark fantasy, in which nothing is clear, and we are led by the hand through local attractions through completely narrow corridor locations. There are few sights: a circus in a swamp, a plague city, a gloomy royal garden. The game has only three chapters, it goes through quickly, but will you last until the end?

Gameplay

The gameplay of Thymesia differs significantly from the souls series. We control a fast and agile lead hero who has no stamina, thanks to which he can inflict an infinite number of hits. The game has fast running, but no jumping. The combat system is made very cleverly, because you have to combine several interesting mechanics.

A series of simple strikes is pumped and receives additional buns. The hero is dual-wielding, so you can parry with both fluffs by pressing F. Parrying is fast, you can press the button endlessly and, in most cases, you will still parry the blows. This tactic does not work with strong opponents, so consider the timings. Corbius has a claw located on the right mouse button. We press RMB, hold a little to charge the claw (at this time the hero is vulnerable), aim at the enemy and make a dash, injuring him and stealing a technique from his own weapon for one hit. It is used by button 2 and is called a plague weapon. The distance of attacks with such guns is very decent, you can steal a plague gun from each mob, they are all different. Corbius also has a pen attack on ctrl. It is recommended to use it during the casting of special attacks by opponents - the casts can be seen by the green strip directed towards the character. We press CTRL and the hero throws a knife at the enemy, knocking down the attack and denouncing the counterattack. Later, we will be able to craft the plague weapons of the enemies, which will be with us all the time.

As for enemies, each has two HP bars: white for armor, green for life. White is excellently removed by simple attacks, while green is quickly taken by a claw. If you do not hit the enemy, he will be able to fully heal from wounds, so you need to deal damage quickly and actively. In the end, we finish off the enemy and replenish mana for using crafted plague weapons for finishing off. After a while, you will be able to pump in a passive ability to restore some HP when finishing off.

The hierarchy of mobs is as follows: ordinary, reinforced, mini-bosses, bosses. The first ones are just meat, the rest make you tinker, because the TTK in the game is quite high. Unlike Dark Souls or Sekiro, there is no need to study the habits of enemies for a long time. Each has 2-3 scripts that they actively use. Souls don't drop, so you don't have to constantly pick up something. Fragments fall from fat enemies for pumping the hero, weapons and skills. The leveling tree here is small, so after 2 hours you will be able to level up tightly. Do not forget about pumping heals: increasing the number, increasing the treatment, etc. There are three types of heals in the game: simple, one that heals for a long time, but slowly, instant.

Locations in Thymesia leave a lot to be desired. A lot of unnecessary nooks and crannies, disgusting level design, no interesting places. You can often get lost, because the developers thought of pushing an inconspicuous staircase into a dark corner. It kills the motivation to explore, as does the stupid music that is meant to be turned off. There is no design of enemies, as well as their artificial intelligence. Too much unnecessary and idiotic text at every step, which does not immerse you in lore at all and is absolutely useless. You can go through the whole game on dodges, thanks to them it turned out to be quite dynamic, our respect. Thymesia is very spectacular, there are cut scenes and cool finishing moves. But the latter are not enough, because their number is simply minimal. The game will appeal to fans of the genre, but with Dark Souls and Sekiro it's not even close. At the same time, it is sold at an inflated price.

Graphics

Thymesia has very unusual graphics, because sometimes the game looks very decent, and sometimes it looks like complete bullshit. The overall picture seems to be too blurred to smooth out the jambs in detail. Perhaps this feeling is brought by far from the best atmosphere in this game due to useless level design. The locations are disgusting, the design of the enemies is created without the use of imagination. There are microfreezes, but the optimization is generally normal.
