The days of racing are long gone. Nobody has even done survival races for a long time - since 2010, such games can be counted on the finger of one hand. For some reason, none of the big publishers are interested in such a game, so small studios get down to business. The unknown studio Good Boys, for which there is practically no information on the Internet, invites us to its own analogue of Flat Out 2 and Wreckfest in 2022. The game is called Trail Out and it tries to be old-fashioned.
The first launch of Trail Out is a little shocking, because you expect something completely different from the game. It turns out that we are facing a black comedy from the 90s with jokes that could someday be funny. Our main character is Mikhalych - no joke now, really Mikhalych. He is a professional racer from the CIS who once moved to America and still has not lost his accent. Mihalich travels on Zaporozhets, gets into an accident on it. After his eyes find an advertisement for the Trail Out festival, in which he takes part to hit the jackpot.
There are decent cut-scenes in the game that will tell us about Mikhalych's life. He has his own garage and his own dog, he has a friend, Zhenya, who constantly wears a gas mask. In a word, absurdity is in the first place here, the hand often reaches out to the face, but we didn’t come here for the plot - by the way, it is lapped up with Most Wanted along with the Black List, but it is served with a comic level “Dumb and dumber”. Are you ready to participate in the festival?
Gameplay
We can feel the gameplay of Trail Out immediately after starting the game and saving the settings. We will be allowed to drive in a normal car, after which Mikhalych will tell the story of his incredible life. Fortunately, cut scenes can be skipped, because watching them for a long time makes one doubt the normality of one's own eyebrows, and facial expressions begin to jump like a graph of the rise and fall of Bitcoin.
Because this is the heir of Flat Out, we want to hear a cool musical accompaniment that makes you destroy everyone and everything in your path. They try to shove something like this into us, but after a few seconds you realize that they are playing light American pop rock for teenagers. The songs are listenable, but they don't even come close to being compared with metal music. You think: “well, at least this way” and you press the pedal to the floor. The first challenges are a twisted track and a collision arena. Mikhalych needs to take a place in the festival for himself, so you can safely lose, because he will still become a champion. We are brought up to date and introduced to the Black List with charismatic, at first glance, heroes. The authors did not fail with them, because driving with memorable guys is much more pleasant than with no-names. Each snout we will push down the list, fighting boss fights.
Impressions of driving in this game are ambiguous. There is no realism here, the car feels more like a toy than a real one, although each car weighs decently, so cornering drifts and control problems are guaranteed. You can't call Trail Out a fast game, everything here happens quite slowly. Even with the use of nitrous oxide, there is no need for speed, but the collisions turned out to be enchanting. Time slows down for a second along with the music, you bend metal, break glass, crash into an enemy who was just crossing the road with a roar. This is fun and enjoyable, but in such collisions, you often roll over for too long or are on your own roof, so we press R in time to restart. The button is also useful on tracks where you can get lost, because you don’t always remember the road after a collision, and at first you don’t notice the tiny inscription “wrong way” at the bottom of the screen.
The car park in Trail Out will amuse our player, because the game features Lada, Zaporozhets, Zhiguli and Volga. They are mixed with the American and European auto industry. We will pump cars by buying different parts in the garage. We will also collect cars from scratch - the first Zaporozhets assembled with his own hands! There are many game modes: from sprint to collision arena, all races are always for survival. You can make fun, but the game has serious flaws.
Graphics
First, Trail Out has a terrible technical condition. Optimization has gone to zero, besides, the game looks completely unattractive even on ultra settings. Freezes, crashes, bugs, black screens - all this will happen. The textures on the maps are destructible, but after the destruction they simply mix with all the garbage on the map, sometimes you don’t know where to go at all. In addition, they are pixelated, and the overall background is too smeared. Flew off the track - you will definitely lose time in the restart. Idiot humor and useless screensavers finish everything. With music, the guys could also get confused.
