Choosing a power supply for a gaming PC. How many watts do you need and which model should you choose?

Buy a power supply for a gaming PC

Given the considerable power of modern gaming PCs, the power supply is a very important component, and the overall stability of the system depends on its proper operation.

Multicore processors in conjunction with video cards are the main power consumers in builds, and it is based on their features that the required power of the PSU should be estimated.

For entry-level and mid-range PCs with Intel Core i3/Core i5, AMD Ryzen 3/Ryzen 5 processors and GeForce RTX 3060, Radeon RX 6600 XT graphics cards, a 550+W power supply will be sufficient.

If we are talking about more productive builds with Core i5/Core i7, Ryzen 5/Ryzen 7 processors with RTX 3070, RTX 3080 graphics cards, then you should choose a 650 or 750W PSU.

And for gaming PCs with high appetites, equipped with powerful Core i7/Core i9, Ryzen 7/Ryzen 9 processors and high-end RTX 3090 Ti, RTX 4090 graphics cards, we recommend a power supply with a capacity of 850 and 1000 watts.

If you intend to experiment with overclocking, add another 100-200 watts to the recommended PSU power values, depending on the system level.

ASUS has a wide range of PSUs suitable for a wide variety of builds. Here are some interesting current models and novelties.

Of course, in power supplies of this level you can see only a modular design with removable wires. In accordance with modern trends, a 16-pin power cable for video cards is provided.

The installed 135mm Axial-tech PWM fan provides lower noise levels and precise temperature control.

The combination of high energy efficiency and a very advanced cooling system with large heat sinks on key components of the PSU allows ROG Thor PSUs to operate very quietly at the highest power outputs. If the load does not exceed 50%, the PSUs can operate completely silently thanks to 0dB technology.

One of the panels also has an OLED display. It allows you to track the current power of the entire system in watts in real time.
